Featured speakers will include Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams, former Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Bob Heil, former NKY Chamber Board Chairman. As the NKY business community, we know increasing awareness of and turnout at our elections is imperative for the NKY region to be better heard in Frankfort. We need to take NKY from worst to first when it comes to voter turnout so tune in for a great discussion as we approach the June 23^rd primary election day.

Meet the Speakers

Michael Adams, Kentucky Secretary of State

Michael Adams was elected in 2019 to be Kentucky's 77th Secretary of State. He is from Paducah, attended public schools and was the first in his family to get a bachelor's degree. After graduating from the University of Louisville, Michael attended Harvard Law School on low-income aid. Michael served as Deputy General Counsel to Governor Ernie Fletcher, before moving to Washington to serve as Counsel to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General in the second Bush Administration.

In 2007, Michael began full-time private practice in election law and has represented several national political committees, members of Congress, and statewide campaign efforts in all 50 states. Because of this unique election experience, Governor Bevin appointed Michael to the Kentucky State Board of Elections in 2016.

Trey Grayson, Former Kentucky Secretary of State

Trey Grayson is a member of Frost Brown Todd and Managing Director of the firm’s public affairs affiliate, CivicPoint.

Before joining FBT, Trey served as the president & CEO of the NKY Chamber and as director the Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Prior to his time at Harvard, Trey served as a two-term Secretary of State for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The youngest secretary of state in the country at the time of his election, Trey served as chair of the Republican Association of Secretaries of States and as president of the National Association of Secretaries of State, the first Kentuckian to hold either position.

Trey continues to be recognized as a national leader in election modernization, including serving on the bipartisan Presidential Commission on Election Administration following the 2012 election, becoming a founding board member of two national non-profits, Democracy Works and the Center for Election Innovation and Research, and working with several additional groups and organizations to secure and modernize our elections, especially during this pandemic.

Bob Heil, Past NKY Chamber Board of Directors Chairman

Bob Heil is Principal, CEO & Chairman of Board with KLH Engineers. Bob has a long history of serving his community and has been a member of the Campbell Leadership Action group since 2003.

Bob has been a strong advocate in Frankfort for NKU. As NKY Chamber Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2017-18, Bob worked along side volunteers and community leaders to advance the advocacy efforts for the region. Bob continues his support of the NKY Chamber by spending countless hours serving on committees.

Bob is a founding member of the NKY Regional Alliance and played a key role in making the 1NKY Office in Frankfort a reality. Last year, Bob was chosen to be the first private sector Chairman of Board of Directors of NKY Tri-ED and currently is serving his second year in that role.
